Staking Mechanism Overview
Cardano is a Delegated Proof of Stake (dPoS) network. Participants can delegate their ADA to stake pools and earn consensus rewards every epoch (approximately 5 days), based on the blocks their Stake Pool produces.
Staked ADA balances are always liquid and are controlled by the Payment Address holding the balance.
Staking rewards automatically accrue in your Stake Address and can be withdrawn only by the Stake Address.
MAVAN operates one or more Stake Pools on the Cardano Network. Use the MAVAN API to craft these staking transactions:
-
Stake Account registration
- Craft Cardano Stake Address Registration Transaction
- Activates your Stake Key so it can be delegated to a Stake Pool
- Automatically deposits 2 ADA into the Stake Address, as required by the network for the address to be active
- Must be signed by both the Stake Key and the Payment Key that owns the input UTXOs funding the 2 ADA deposit
-
Stake Account delegation
- Craft Cardano Stake Delegation Transaction
- Delegates your Stake Key to a MAVAN stake pool so your ADA can earn staking rewards
-
Stake Account registration and delegation in one transaction
- Craft Cardano Register and Delegate Transaction
- Registers and delegates your Stake Key in a single transaction
-
Staking rewards withdrawal
- Craft Cardano Stake Rewards Withdrawal Transaction
- Withdraw rewards to a chosen address
- Spends the rewards into output UTXOs belonging to the chosen recipient
-
Stake Account deregistration
- Craft Cardano Stake Address Deregistration Transaction
- Closes your Stake Key and reclaims your 2 ADA deposit
- Withdraws all rewards to a specified recipient address
