Polkadot (DOT)

Polkadot is a heterogeneous multichain network that relies on Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS) consensus. It links independent parachains, offers six-second block times, and lets DOT holders nominate trusted validators to secure the Relay Chain.

MAVAN delivers non-custodial, institutional-grade staking on Polkadot. Your DOT never leaves your custody, while our globally distributed infrastructure keeps validators online and performant.

Whether you’re staking 1,000 or 1,000,000 DOT, MAVAN provides the tooling, custody integrations, and uptime support required for scalable operations.

Polkadot staking rewards are variable. The effective reward rate depends on total DOT staked, validator commission, validator performance, era points, payout timing, and protocol-level tokenomics.

Polkadot Staking Parameters

ParameterValue
Estimated APRVariable; check the Polkadot Staking Dashboard for the current live estimate
SlashingNominators may be exposed to slashing if a nominated validator is slashed; protocol reforms may change nominator slashing exposure
Reward FrequencyRewards are calculated every era (≈24 hours) and must be paid out before they expire
Withdrawal TimeHistorically 28 eras (≈28 days); Polkadot staking reforms may reduce nominator unbonding once active on-chain

Polkadot staking economics changed materially in 2026. Treat any quoted APR as an estimate, not a fixed rate, and verify the current value in the Polkadot Staking Dashboard before delegating.

Staking Dynamics

Polkadot uses Nominated Proof-of-Stake (NPoS), where DOT holders nominate validators that secure the Relay Chain. Rewards are calculated once per era based on validator performance, era points, commission, and the amount of DOT backing the validator.

Rewards are not always distributed automatically. A payout must be triggered, either by the validator or permissionlessly by another participant. Unclaimed rewards are only available for a limited number of eras, so payout monitoring matters for institutional staking operations.

When you unbond DOT, the tokens stop earning staking rewards during the unbonding period. Historically, Polkadot used a 28-era unbonding period, but 2026 staking reforms are expected to shorten nominator unbonding and change slashing exposure once the relevant runtime changes are active.
