# Cardano (ADA)

Cardano is a research-driven, proof-of-stake blockchain that uses the Ouroboros consensus protocol. It supports smart contracts written in Plutus (Haskell-based) and Aiken. Fees are deterministic and typically fractions of a cent. Blocks finalise in 20 seconds on average (one block).
